Another National Retailer Is Filing For Bankruptcy

It has been a rough go for retailers during the pandemic. Even before it hit, Westridge Mall has seen it share of problems. Could it be possible that another major tenant could be closing it doors for good?

J.C. Penney is reportedly preparing to file for bankruptcy protection next week and close about 25 percent of its 850 stores.

The 118-year-old chain employs about 85,000 people nationwide but has carried billions in debt over the last few years.

J.C. Penney would be the third major retailer to file for bankruptcy since Monday, following J. Crew and Neiman Marcus this week.

I am a big fan of J.C. Penney. When I was growing up, I would always look forward to my parents getting the catalog that had toys and games in it. There clothes are also a popular item of mine. And the makeup line Sephora is also in the Topeka store. Let’s hope that they do not close that store at all!

Will this be the final nail in the coffin for brick-and-mortar retail?  Pandemic aside, do you prefer online shopping or visiting actual stores?
