Christmas is a special time for kids. Seeing their eyes light up when they unwrap a gift that Santa has brought them. For some in Topeka, that is not the case. The Salvation Army  is teaming up with a popular chain store to make sure kids wishes come true.

Here is the a press release from the Salvation Army’s Director of Development in Topeka Shelley Robertson:

Walmart and The Salvation Army are joining forces to provide toys to local children in need during the holidays with a toy drive event at all four (4) locations: 1301 SW 37th Street,  2600 NW Rochester Rd., 2630 SE California,  1501 SW Wanamaker and the Walmart Neighborhood Grocery Store, 335 SW MacVicar on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Topeka stores are one of many stores nationwide taking place in similar toy drives. On November 9, shoppers will receive a list of suggested toy items. To participate, simply stop by and drop off new toys to The Salvation Army at the front of each Walmart store.

“80 percent of Topeka children and families seek Christmas assistance every year,” said Captain Cristian Lopez from The Salvation Army. “The public’s generosity helps The Salvation Army provide children with Christmas toys they would not receive otherwise.”

Santa will be making visits to every Walmart store on the same day – adding an air of excitement and Christmas cheer to customers’ shopping experience in stores.

For those unable to participate in-store on November 9, The Salvation Army has provided a searchable online registry comprising all the items needed; each item requires just one click to purchase.
